cleaning with lemon

Lemon juice can be used much like white vinegar. It disinfects and cuts grease, it neutralizes odor and has a pleasant, clean smell. When you use lemon juice for cleaning, keep it refrigerated or wait to squeeze the juice when you need it.The juice can be applied to any surface needing disinfecting and is very versatile. Lemon juice is also a more powerful disinfectant than white vinegar (vinegar kills approx. 90% of bacteria).

Disinfecting spray: mix juice of 3-4 lemons in a spray bottle (8-12 oz) and fill the rest with water. Spray on any surface and wipe with a cloth if needed.

To clean copper pots, mix lemon juice with salt and scour/polish.

Wipe a lemon wedge over your cutting boards and rinse to disinfect.

If you use a castile soap to clean surfaces you can follow up with lemon juice to add disinfecting power.

Use in place of bleach for clothes in the washing machine.

To clean a smelly garbage disposal, cut 1 lemon into quarters, stick into the disposal and turn it on. You should be able to smell the lemon and it's disinfecting properties will help clean your garbage disposal.

I love how safe it is to clean with lemon! You can clean food surfaces without worry because lemon is food! Use fresh lemon juice or concentrate. I like using fresh lemons but concentrate is less expensive. If buying concentrate, remember to read the label to make sure that lemon, and nothing else (except for maybe water) is in the ingredient list.

I'd love to hear about how you use lemon to clean!
