feeling crafty: little activity gift bag

I enjoy looking for small ways to bless people. At small group, one woman always brings her daughter and I thought it would be fun to make a small little activity bag for her to play with while we're having small group.

Here's what I used:
1 muslin drawstring bag
2 small notebooks, one lined, one blank
6 sets of small cards and envelopes
a set of crayola colored pencils (the short set)
2 bundles of colored embroidery floss
a couple sheets of stickers
1 pen
1 fabric covered twistie tie and two small pieces of fabric

This set is obviously for a girl because of the colors, but you could easily make a boy version by choosing boy colors, superhero stickers and maybe a small set of legos instead of the embroidery floss.

This is an Orla Kiely journal that I've had for a while. I like to buy little notebooks and such so I can make a gift bag with little notice. Notebooks and notepads are always useful! Especially when they look cute like this one :)

Using some floral fabric cut into a strip, I tied it around the set of cards using some of the embroidery floss.

I tied the embroidery floss together using a fabric covered twistie tie that I made using the same floral fabric.

These are really easy to make. Collect twistie ties that you get from the grocery store and rip/cut off the paper/plastic. Cut out fabric to sandwich around the wire. Using craft glue, apply to one side of the fabric, place the wire on the fabric and glue. Make sure there is glue covering the entire wire. Place the second piece of fabric on top and press together. Let dry overnight.

Using the second piece of fabric, tie a knot around the drawstring.

Additional ideas:
-stencil/paint the recipients name onto the fabric
-dip dye the muslin bag
-add a note inside or directions on using their new activity bag
-add candy :)

Place all the goodies in the bag and excitedly deliver to your recipient :)
